International Women's Day '26

Women supporting women: Anna Søgaard

In celebration of International Women's Day 2026, we are turning the spotlight on female entrepreneurship, the strength of community, and the courage it takes to build your own working life. We invite 10 women in and give space to their stories.

Meet Anna Søgaard, furniture and product designer with a particular fascination for wood and simple functions. Anna works with objects where the interaction between user and object is at the center.

She took the leap into self-employment when the opportunity for a major exhibition arose. Since then, one thing has led to another.

What do you do, and what was your journey toward becoming self-employed?

In my work as a furniture and product designer, my primary interest is objects in wood. I am fascinated by simple functions such as storage and am particularly focused on the interaction between the user and the object.

I never actively set out to be self-employed, but when a major, recognized exhibition came into view, it gave me the courage to take the leap, and then one thing led to another.

What does being self-employed mean to you?

Freedom, variety, the physical craft, collaboration across disciplines, and self-determination.

What is the best part about running your own business?

The thought of all the possibilities I have as a self-employed person. No two weeks are the same, and I decide for myself which assignments I take on and which projects I want to be part of.

Has there been a moment where you truly felt: "this is the reason I do it"?

Yes, it happens from time to time, among other things when I sense that my objects evoke the same joy and enthusiasm in the viewer. Then I feel recognized and understood in my work.

And when I am contacted and invited into an exciting collaboration based on exactly what I do and stand for.

What gives you courage or energy when you doubt?

Exploring and developing new objects in the woodworking studio reminds me of why I began, and often gives renewed desire and curiosity toward new projects.

How do you experience community or support from other women in your working life?

I experience a great generosity in sharing experiences, knowledge, and encouragement. It creates a space where you can mirror yourself in one another and find both inspiration, sparring, and support in the challenges that come with being self-employed.

Women supporting women

SÆTTER is a company founded and run by women, built on community and the belief that we are stronger when we support one another.

Throughout March 2026, we invite a group of female entrepreneurs, designers, and makers into our universe. Through editorial stories and a curated pop-up on saetter.dk, we share one selected object from each woman alongside her journey, giving space to different perspectives on female entrepreneurship.

To us, women supporting women is about saying each other's names out loud, sharing opportunities, and making space for more voices. Happy International Women's Day from SÆTTER.
