International Women's Day '26

Women supporting women: Nina Nørgaard

In celebration of International Women's Day 2026, we are turning the spotlight on female entrepreneurship, the strength of community, and the courage it takes to build your own working life. We invite 10 women in and give space to their stories.

Meet glass artist Nina Nørgaard. Nina started her business at the age of 26 and has since worked with mouth-blown and sculpted glass across projects worldwide.

What do you do, and what was your journey toward becoming self-employed?

I am a Danish artist and designer working with glass. After studying mouth-blown and sculpted glass with masters in Paris, Venice, and San Francisco, I graduated from Kosta School of Glass in Sweden in 2010. Today I work with both commissioned and personal projects worldwide.

I started my business in 2011, at 26. It was never a difficult decision. I come from a family of self-employed people, and my partner also ran several businesses. Being self-employed was a natural part of the world I grew up in.

What does being self-employed mean to you?

Freedom to manage my own days and shape my life in a way that makes sense to me. That is the essence of it.

What is the best part about running your own business?

Making my own decisions. Over the projects, the time, and the direction.

Has there been a moment where you truly felt: "this is the reason I do it"?

It is rarely the big dramatic moments. It is the small ones. When the sun is shining and I can take my work outside. Or the day it snowed and I could pick up my children early so we made it out to ski. That is when freedom feels most real.

What gives you courage or energy when you doubt?

My family and my friends. The people who know me best are also the ones who keep me grounded when things are hard.

How do you experience community or support from other women in your working life?

I have many friends who are also self-employed, and that community means a great deal. Being able to talk openly with people who understand exactly the challenges and joys that come with running something of your own. And not least working on projects together, lifting each other instead of competing.

Women supporting women

SÆTTER is a company founded and run by women, built on community and the belief that we are stronger when we support one another.

Throughout March 2026, we invite a group of female entrepreneurs, designers, and makers into our universe. Through editorial stories and a curated pop-up on saetter.dk, we share one selected object from each woman alongside her journey, giving space to different perspectives on female entrepreneurship.

To us, women supporting women is about saying each other's names out loud, sharing opportunities, and making space for more voices. Happy International Women's Day from SÆTTER.
