International Women's Day '26

Women supporting women: Maria Grønborg, Mellow Mind

In celebration of International Women's Day 2026, we are turning the spotlight on female entrepreneurship, the strength of community, and the courage it takes to build your own working life. We invite 10 women in and give space to their stories.

Meet Maria Grønborg, the founder of Mellow Mind. After six years in China working in the design industry, Maria was introduced to a more holistic approach to life, where yoga and self-care began to take up more space.

That became the inspiration for Mellow Mind, a Danish hair care and lifestyle brand built on honest ingredients and long-term everyday rituals.

What do you do, and what was your journey toward becoming self-employed?

Mellow Mind is a Danish hair care and lifestyle brand founded in 2019. Our care products are vegan and unisex, with a focus on honest ingredients and effective formulations.

My background is in the design industry, where I have worked for Danish and international brands, both in Denmark and abroad. I lived in China for six years and worked with design and product development, among other things.

In China, I was introduced to a more holistic approach to life, where yoga and self-care began to take up more space as a contrast to a busy working life. A few years later, when I was back in Denmark and left the design industry, I trained as a yoga teacher and opened a yoga studio. But I missed working with something tangible, creating a universe and developing products, and that became the starting point for Mellow Mind.

I lacked a hair and scalp product that could help me when the first grey hairs began to appear. I experimented at home in my kitchen, watched countless YouTube videos, and developed our first shampoo bar, which is still one of our best-selling products today.

What does being self-employed mean to you?

Being self-employed means freedom, but also responsibility, especially when launching products.

I can set the direction myself and make the decisions, both the good and the difficult ones. For me, it is not about the title of entrepreneur, but about building an authentic brand and working with something I genuinely care about.

Something that can grow while maintaining its integrity, where I know that the products I develop today will still be just as good in ten years.

What is the best part about running your own business?

Being able to follow an idea all the way from thought to finished product. From formulation and testing to packaging, branding, and the final experience for the customer. I like having my hands in both the creative and the practical aspects and knowing that what we send out is something I can stand behind 100 percent.

In addition, the direct contact with customers means a great deal to me, both end consumers and retailers. It can be at events in stores or when someone writes on Instagram and shares that a product has made a concrete difference for them. That is when the work becomes real.

Has there been a moment where you truly felt: "this is the reason I do it"?

When I stand at an event and talk about a healthy scalp, and people begin to understand the connection between skincare and scalp care instead of conventional hair care. When they feel the effect of the products and say, "It actually makes sense."

But especially when customers share their experiences and tell me what the products have done for them, and I can see how they glow.

Mellow Mind is not about quick fixes. It is about creating everyday rituals that deliver long-term results. That is why it makes me especially happy when customers can feel the effect themselves and choose the products again and again.

What gives you courage or energy when you doubt?

Action.

When I doubt, it helps to take the next step instead of analyzing for too long. For me, movement creates clarity, and I do not thrive in stillness.

In addition, the creative work gives me energy. It reminds me why I started and that it is possible to build a business at your own pace in order to preserve authenticity.

How do you experience community or support from other women in your working life?

I experience a strong willingness to share experiences among female entrepreneurs, and I am fortunate to have a good handful of them in my circle of friends.

Being able to speak openly about growth, doubt, finances, and balance means a lot. It makes running a business feel less lonely.

Women supporting women

SÆTTER is a company founded and run by women, built on community and the belief that we are stronger when we support one another.

Throughout March 2026, we invite a group of female entrepreneurs, designers, and makers into our universe. Through editorial stories and a curated pop-up on saetter.dk, we share one selected object from each woman alongside her journey, giving space to different perspectives on female entrepreneurship.

To us, women supporting women is about saying each other's names out loud, sharing opportunities, and making space for more voices. Happy International Women's Day from SÆTTER.
